Slow Work May from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

At the beginning of May as I got ready to layer up quilt number nine in my #quilt21in2021 quest, I didn't feel very enthusiastic.  I thought about taking the month off but knowing myself as I do, I was afraid I'd lose my momentum altogether so I chose a small quilt.

After all,  the garden was constantly calling to "come out and play"!

I've (perhaps foolishly) agreed to open my garden for the local perennial garden group in late June so there is a deadline for weeding and mulching which I've never had before this.  Their ...

A Third of the Way!!! from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Spring is progressing here and so is my drive to #quilt21in2021!!   I just finished binding the 7th quilt and that puts me one third of the way to achieving my ambitious goal!  Its in the washing machine now for a final tidy-up as the top has been sitting on a shelf for at least fifteen years.

I think it's the best job I've done so far using the Baptist fan quilting -- it's very consistent -- not like a computer version, but good for a human guidance system!  I used one of my plexiglass tools to make the first ...

Less + Contentment = Better from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Number six of twenty-one is finished!!
Doesn't a finish always make you eager to shout out -- "look what I did"!!
The breeze (okay, wind) was just as excited as I was -- couldn't stop flappin' it around for all the neighbors to see.

The quilting isn't even close to my original idea of how to do it - just simple vertical straight lines.  In the end, I was inspired by the quilting on two previous quilts that come out every spring.
The upper three fourths of the quilt is covered with horizontal breezy quilting -- free motion curves billowing from ...

So They say . . . . from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

. . . . if one does something for 21 days, it becomes a habit (usually to encourage folks to keep trying to exercise or study something) but really?!?  My daughter, Alison who is working from home tells me it's day 34 of our isolation marathon.  Today, it took some effort to get my engine firing on all cylinders -- whew, this can be such hard work!

When I finally left the house for a walk (alone), I was rewarded by finding this little clump of wildflowers -- azure bluets I believe -- and some spring bird song.
I swung past my local garden center and ...

And the beat goes on . . . . . from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

. . . . but of course, it's not our usual beat, is it?
How are you coping?
I don't have more people underfoot than normal and I'm still a retired teacher.

Have you cleaned the entire house from top to bottom?  No, me either.
Although I think I understand why it was so important for my mother to do this annually.  She did work full time outside our home after all of us were in school but prior to that the house (in the 1950's) was her world and it probably wasn't a fun place to be when ...

What a Difference a Week Makes!?! from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Is your head spinning over every thing that has happened over the past week?
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
A week ago, we were being "urged" to take precautions here in the USA and now we are being "ordered" to take precautions.  Today, I am suppose to be on the Platte River in Nebraska enjoying a "bucket list" birding experience but I'm home doing laundry, figuring out what to fix for supper, and puttering in my sewing studio.  Thank goodness I have a lifetime supply (really, maybe a couple lifetimes) of stuff!!

I finished and washed this little quilt to donate ...

Working Quietly from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Greetings from the snow globe that is currently Northeast Ohio!
We haven't had much snow this winter (embarrassing when one lives in the "snow belt of Ohio",
but yesterday we were delighted with a few inches of soft wet snow that clung to everything. No matter where I went or who I talked with yesterday, everyone was exclaiming about how lovely our world looked frosted from top to bottom!
Delightful!!

As for me, I've been quietly absorbed in several projects -- not much finished, but progress just the same.  Those little 8-pointed stars I share in my last post ...

Just 9 More Days!! from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

With just 9 days left in January, I'm looking forward to February because that means I'll have finished my attempt to eliminate 10 UFO's during January.  I might have the attention span of gnat but I'm pushing myself to stay on task and reach the goal!!

This teaching sample is all set together and I'm going to offer it for sale this weekend during the retreat I'm attending along with the extra lattice fabrics and that hunk on the left side!
Fingers crossed someone will love it!!
As I set the hexagons together, I ...

To Repurpose or To Pitch? from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

 That is the question!!

I unearthed this bland collection of blocks early last week.  They have been a UFO since 2000 or so -- I was very hot about the Blended Quilts books and companion fabric lines -- bought all of it for the shop -- stashed some of every bolt for my stash -- think I led a workshop for my students?

But something didn't mesh with my creative drive about the low contrast and print scale and it got shelved.  Sometimes we start things we love, but can't seem to finish because we don't have the intuitive understanding to ...
